Believe it or not, Christmas will be here before you know it.
And while you could wait until the very last minute to shop for those Christmas gifts, I recommend trying to tackle the task earlier in the season.
By planning in advance, you can say goodbye to holiday stress and plan the best Christmas ever. And a big part of that process includes shopping for all of the presents on your list.
Shopping early gives you time to look for the best deals and ensure youāre getting everyone on your list exactly what they want – instead of having to settle. And itās one less thing youāll have to worry about as youāre putting the finishing touches on your holiday plans.
The risk?
It can be hard to hide Christmas presents for weeks, if not months. And the last thing you want is for your kids – or your spouse – to snoop around and ruin the surprise.

The Obvious Spots: Where To Avoid Hiding Christmas Presents
There are definitely some spots to avoid when trying to keep those Christmas presents hidden. If you donāt want your kids to find their gifts, you should probably steer clear of keeping those presents inā¦
- Your bedroom closet. This is the spot where most parents store holiday gifts, and the first place nosy kids are likely to look when trying to find their presents. A pile of shopping bags or boxes in the corner will quickly draw attention if your little ones come looking.
- Under the bed. You might think that tucking boxes and bags under the bed is a clever idea – but itās still a pretty easy spot to investigate. If youāre determined to keep your holiday gifts a secret, youāll want to look elsewhere.
- Your gift wrapping room. If you like to set up a gift wrapping station in your craft room or elsewhere in your house, you might be tempted to keep your gifts there. But itās a pretty obvious spot for little ones to check when snooping for holiday gifts.
How To Store Gifts: Where To Keep Presents You Donāt Want Family To Find
If you want to store gifts where family canāt find them, youāll need to get a bit creative. Not sure where to start? Here are a few smart ways you can store those Christmas presents and keep them out of sight until the big day!
Keep Presents At A Friendās House
One of the best ways to keep gifts hidden from family? Keep them out of your house! If you have a friend or neighbor whoās willing to let you borrow a bit of closet space, consider it an excellent option. You can even offer to let them hide their gifts in your house in exchange! As long as you can pick them up before the big day and have enough time to wrap them, this is a great, risk-free option thatāll keep your family from ruining the surprise.
Hide Presents In Unused Luggage
Donāt have any big trips planned for the holiday season? Consider your luggage a great spot to store gifts! Suitcases and duffel bags can be zipped closed – and if youāre really determined to keep āem a secret, they can be locked, too.Ā
Just donāt pull your luggage out in the middle of the day, when everyoneās around, to hide those gifts. Thatās a surefire way to raise suspicion. Instead, wait until the kids are at school – or ask your spouse to take them out for some ice cream – and tuck those presents away when youāre alone.
Hide Presents Inside Old Boxes
If youāre the type of person who refuses to get rid of the box your television came in, youāre in luck. Boxes for old electronics can be a great place to store presents you donāt want anyone to find.
Just donāt raise suspicion by relocating them. If youāve kept that box in the garage for the last two years, leave it there – donāt haul it to your bedroom.
And you donāt have to limit yourself to old electronics boxes. If you still have some stuff boxed up in your basement from your last move, or you keep boxes of old stuff in your attic, chances are your kids wonāt notice if a few more are added to the pile. Just make sure whatever boxes or bins youāre adding blend in – and consider adding some misleading labels for good measure!
Hide Presents In Your Car
Your kids might think to check your house for hidden presents – but will they look in the car?
This might not be a great option if you drive a SUV or minivan with a trunk thatās fully connected and accessible to the main car. But if youāve got a separate trunk space, or a hidden compartment for a spare tire, it can be a great spot to store small gifts.
If you have a secondary vehicle that you donāt use often, thatās an even better option. And if you happen to have an RV or a boat? Consider those excellent storage spaces as well. Chances are, theyāre reserved for summer activities and sit unused during the winter, so thereās no excuse for anyone to go snooping in there.
Hide Presents In Your Garden Shed
If you have a shed in your backyard to keep garden tools and supplies organized, it can be a great space to hide Christmas gifts. Once winter rolls around, you probably arenāt spending much time mowing the lawn or trimming the hedges – so it wonāt be suspicious if that shed remains locked up for a couple of months. And unless your little ones love to do yardwork, they probably wonāt think to check it out.
Hide Christmas Presents At A Storage Facility
Canāt find a good place at home to hide those gifts? Donāt have a neighbor or nearby family member whoās willing to let you store your stuff at their place? Consider a storage unit.
While a storage unit is definitely an added investment for the holiday season, it can be an effective way to hide presents – especially if youāre shopping for large items. Hiding a bike or a trampoline in your house might be tough. But if you splurge on a spot at a nearby storage facility, you can keep those things easily tucked away and totally inaccessible.
