How to Store Plastic Food Containers Once and For All

Organizing food storage containers can be pretty tricky, but if you have the right systems in place, organizing your food storage containers is going to be easy! Here is how to store and organize your plastic food containers once and for all. Finally, some systems you can stick with.

4 steps to an organized Tupperware drawer.

Step 1: Hunt down all your food storage containers

The first step is to find all the plastic food containers and their lids, and put them together.

This is likely going to be one of the harder steps in the process, but finding all of your food storage containers is a must! Until you know where all your food storage containers are, you are going to continue to struggle with organizing them. While some of them may be dirty, or in use, itā€™s okay to leave them together in the fridge while you are doing this exercise.

Match containers with lids. If you find random containers that don’t have matching lids – or vice versa – get rid of them. Only keep what you will use.

Step 2: If itā€™s nasty, get rid of it

The next step is to dispose of as many plastic food containers as you can.

If you have nasty Tupperware containers or food storage containers that are looking past their prime, itā€™s time to get rid of them. If you canā€™t find the lid to the container, or itā€™s just a hassle, then get rid of them.

If you are finding that all of your storage containers are in rough shape, consider instead getting a new set of glass containers. They are easier to clean, and they are dishwasher safe!

Only keeping the plastic food containers that are in excellent shape will keep your collection of food containers easy to manage.

Step 3: Stack your containers

The third step is to create a system that will keep the plastic food containers organized long term.

This is going to be the easiest way to keep all of your food storage containers in one spot.

Stack all of your rectangular bins together, followed by all your circular ones. Next, stack all of your lids together.

Once you have them all stacked, consider how you want them to be stored. Do you want them to be in bins, baskets, or just loose in a cabinet?

Whatever you decide, keep them stacked! You can use an old cereal box container, gift boxes, or even a dollar tree bin if you are on a tight budget.

Step 4: Put everything away

Finally, put everything back in the cabinets.

Put your food storage containers away first, before the lids. Whether you are using a bin or just putting them away in the drawer, you need to do the containers first.

If you are short on space, it will be easy to store your lids vertically instead. If you find that you canā€™t store all of the items in that space, consider the fact that you may have too many Tupperware containers. Food storage containers should be functional and while having a variety of sizes can be useful, if you wonā€™t use all of them, why are you keeping them?

How to Organize Glass Food Storage Containers

Storing glass food containers is a little different than storing plastic ones. Since plastic containers are not breakable, you can use different organization systems like bins and boxes

But glass bowls and dishes need more care. They will do better if you stack them in a drawer or kitchen cabinet and use something else to store the lids.

Organizing your food storage containers doesnā€™t have to be such a hassle. Take some of these tips and apply them to your own kitchen so you can finally stop digging for those lids! Remember that the key to keeping a space organized is to keep up with the system. When youā€™re done with a container, put it back properly or all your efforts will be for nothing.
