Getting organized before back to school season hits can help you not only be more prepared but save just an ounce or two of your sanity for the rest of the day.

Starting a new school year can be an even bigger challenge if you’ve just moved to a new house! Be sure to read our tips for staying organized when you move.

1. Create a snack station in the fridge and pantry

When it comes to after school, your kids are going to come through that door hungry and demanding food. Save yourself the time and hassle of picking out a snack by putting a snack station in your fridge and pantry.

Keep the snack foods at your kid’s eye level so they can reach in and get their own snack! You can separate them out by type or even sort them for each child by using clear organizer bins and a label maker.

2. Lay out your clothes and your child’s clothes the night before

Instead of rushing around to try and get yourself dressed and your kids, lay out everyone’s clothes the night before. You won’t have to worry about the weather or what you’re going to wear because those decisions will already be made!

3. Create a portable homework station

Whether your kids do their homework in a designated area, or on the kitchen table, creating a portable homework station can make cleanup a breeze! When you’re ready for dinner, all the homework supplies are in one spot, and all their work is easy to find! This also helps make sure that your child has completed all of their homework, and that you know where to find it later.

4. Pack lunches the night before

If you don’t want to pack your lunch each night, consider instead packing your lunches a week ahead. Don’t wait until the last minute to find out that you need to make sandwiches or that you’re out of something for their lunch. Pack everything up the night before so it’s ready for your kids to take with them in the morning.

5. Keep a family command center

This doesn’t need to be a full-fledged command center if you don’t have space, but it should be a place where your family can drop their bags, grab anything they need to take with them, and where you can easily plan for the upcoming week.

Keep a calendar, place to drop the mail, key holder, and anything else your family might need to quickly grab or glance at. Consider creating a magnetic chalkboard wall near the kitchen for your family’s command center and make this your home base for all things related to your family!
